Michigan Car Insurance

If you have a registered vehicle in Michigan you are required by law to carry car insurance on that vehicle. You are also required to carry not only the minimum amount of liability insurance; but also a no-fault insurance, property damage, personal injury protection, and property protection coverage. If you happen to have a vehicle that is being financed you may also be required to carry comprehensive and collision coverage, as well. Personal injury protection (PIP) will help you pay for: reasonable medical expenses, up to more than $4,000 a month for lost wages from your job, funeral expenses, and much more. The property protection portion of your policy will help protect you and another party's property that you have damaged by paying up to one million dollars per accident, although, this doesn't pay for occurrences outside of Michigan. Michigan also offers a residual car insurance coverage that protects you in accidents that involve death, or other serious bodily injury or impairment, losses that exceed your PIP coverage, and accidents that occur outside the state of Michigan.

Since the price of vehicles seem to rise daily, as well as, the price to repair them, there are other coverages that might interest you to partake in. Let's say you are the type of person that can go today and pay cash for a brand new sports car, and after owning it for about a week someone rear-ends you at a stop light. Now you have a serious problem on your hands. You have Michigan car insurance, but you opted out of selecting the collision portion. So now, you have spent all your money on this new car, but now you can't afford to pay to have your new “baby” repaired. What do you do now? Collision coverages offer you several options you may not be aware of such as; paying for damages to your vehicle no matter who is at fault (must pay deductible first), broad coverage will pay for the damages no matter who is at fault, but if you are more than 50% at fault you are required to pay your deductible, limited coverage will pay for the damages incurred to your vehicle if you are less than 50% at fault and have paid for your deductible.
